My opinion:

At first I wasn’t very curious about this book. I thought it couldn’t bring anything new and the last book, Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows, was so perfect to the end the saga that I didn’t want to read anymore books about these characters, thinking it might ruin the stories I love so much. But my curiosity increased every time I saw it in bookstore shelves. My boyfriend gave it to me because he saw me looking at it with lots of questions on my mind, and he knew that by that time I was curious enough about what was happening in Hogwarts to give the book a chance. I don’t know why, but when I felt so happy when I first had the book on my hands, and I read it in about 24 hours! It’s not like the previous Harry Potter books… this one is a play, and it’s also more mature, it’s more for adults, I guess. Thinking about it, it makes sense: many of the people that read the Harry Potter books we teenagers and now they are adults, so they need another type of reading. Well, that’s my opinion… The books followed the readers as we grew older.
I couldn’t put it down and I absolutely loved it. It was so nice to meet the old characters, now grown up. Those characters made part of my life for years when I was younger and we kind of grew up together. I loved to read about them again and I loved the new characters as well. My expectations about the book were kind of low but it surprised me so much… Every time I put the book down, my imagination started running wild about the possible scenarios, jumping from one to the other, and I had to read a little bit more to know what was happening next. I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved to read about Hogwarts again. It’s original and it brings new stories about that magical place that I love so much and all the people that are related to it. I could read it all over again any time. It was really magical to go back and at the same time read about a different time in Hogwarts. I don’t know if all Harry Potter fans will enjoy this book, but I think it’s worth to try.

Urban Fantasy / Sci-Fi Romance
Book #3 Can be Read as a Standalone.
Date Published: December 15, 2013

Book description:
Thanks to a magical transplant from an inter-dimensional enforcer, Hailey Parrish can transform into a hawk. When someone begins dismembering hikers along the Appalachian Trail, the enforcers make use of her feathery talents to pursue the killer. Unfortunately, like most things in Hailey’s life, there is nothing ordinary about the assignment. Their target turns out to be maddeningly elusive, they rescue a stray dog that makes a sewage treatment plant seem pleasantly fragrant, and stopping the murders turns out to be the least of their worries.

Special Attraction, the third book in the Coursodon Dimension series, combines paranormal romance, urban fantasy, a bit of science fiction and a healthy dose of quirky humor.

My opinion:

This is the third book of the series but it can be read without reading the previous two.

The first paragraph is the brilliant start for this story. You read about a scene of massacre that made me what to know more. The plot is original and the book is very well written. The story is full of paranormal elements, suspense and mystery. I absolutely loved this.

Hailey Parrish is a very special and unusual main character. We read her perspective of things, since she is the narrator of the story. She has to investigate unusual crimes, but she doesn’t do it alone.

The characters are amazing. I loved Hailey, Alex and Sebastian and the relationship between all of them. They have strong personalities and a fantastic sense of humour.

The love story between Hailey and Alex is on the background. I consider that it is a good addition to the story, but not too much to distract you from the main plot.

The killer has a signature: body parts left around, which led to a dead end. Hailey and Alex have to find the killer in order to stop him from killing again, but that won’t be an easy task. There are some paragraphs that made jump of my chair with the will of knowing what was going to happen after that.

The book is easy to read, especially because M.L. Ryan made it so interesting.

I’m not going to write more because I don’t want to spoil this story for any of those who decide to read it.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read paranormal romance or urban fantasy.

 About the author:

M.L. Ryan isMLRyan blackandwhite a professional woman – which is not to say that she gave up her amateur status, but rather that she is over-educated with a job that reflects her one-time reluctance to leave school and get “real” work – and she spends a lot of time in that profession reading highly techni
cal material.
She has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn’t saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn’t like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode.
She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two dogs and an adopted desert tortoise.

finding me

Young Adult Urban Fiction
Synopsis:
Sixteen-year-old Chloe Carmichael’s perfect world is in chaos.

It’s not because she has a vision of her boyfriend murdered. And then he’s found dead exactly as she saw. It’s not because she suddenly has the ability to move objects when she’s upset. It’s kinda cool to close a door without touching it. It’s not her overbearing mother who only cares about appearances. Chloe’s grown accustomed to her family's distance.

So what has Chloe cringing in fear?

It’s a love that defies reason. It’s a love that speaks to the heart. It demands attention. But Chloe struggles with a love that exposes the soul. What will her family think? What will her friends think? And is she worthy of his love.

And it’s having to become another person for a new group of people. Chloe knows she’s not perfect but apparently she was when she was Amanda in another life. Her new friends won’t let her forget. It’s the stench of death that hoovers over her every move. It’s the threat of finality as she tries to acclimate to a life of super human proportions. It’s an enemy she can’t see, doesn’t remember, and can be anyone she’s ever known. But her enemy knows her well. She’s the lone person with the knowledge to destroy him. But she doesn't remember.

And it’s never discovering who she really is before finality meets reality.

My opinion:

Finding Me by Dawn Brazil was an amazing surprise. I absolutely loved it.

This is the story about Chloe who is apparently just a girl like many of other girls. Her life changes suddenly and she it takes time to understand her new self.

We follow her in her adventures, encounters, thoughts and dreams. After a tragic moment that you read about in the beginning of the book Chloe meets Chris, a new boy at school. This seems a little bit of a chiché but I think that the original plot makes these little things have a different impact.

After meeting Chis, the story really begins. Chloe finds out she can do things that seem impossible and she has a hard time understanding and accepting it. She needs answers that are not given to her from the beginning. Fantasy is all around, however sometimes Chloe has some troubles bearing the reality among the magic. While she has no answers, Chloe has a hard time trying to pretend everything is normal and the same; when the answers start to come up it doesn’t become that much easier either.

I love the writing. It’s easy to read but at the same time is thrilling and very emotional at times. I was hooked from the beginning. I didn’t feel like this with a book for some time now, even if the latest books I read were really good. I could picture many of the scenes in my mind so perfectly. It also has some good twists in the story, which made me want to read more to see what was going to happen next. Dawn Brazil made an excellent job.

The plot is good and original, yet simple which makes it a pleasant reading. Some of the parts were really surprising and you can find some suspense and mystery until the end. The characters are well built. I loved Chloe, Chris and even Samantha.

The love story is a good addition to the plot, not distracting the reader from the rest of the story. It’s a teenager love story like many others, but the originality of the plot and the characters in it made it special.

The ending is another twist, I wasn’t expecting it. If a sequel for this book comes out, I will definitely read it.

If you like YA books you should read this book.

Title: Copyright A Novel
Author: Lori Lesko
Published April 4th 2014 by CreateSpace
ISBN 1497403030 (ISBN13: 9781497403031)
Genre: Mystery thriller
Book description (via Amazon.com):

Amber Tyler is living every author’s dream: her books are all best sellers and she writes full time. She has worked hard and is well-accomplished in her career, and she has the support and love of her beautiful children and girlfriend.
But the dream soon turns into a terrible nightmare when her latest manuscript is stolen. She decides to fight for what is rightfully hers, only to find that the harder she tries, the easier it all slips through her fingers, putting her career, her family, and her life in jeopardy.

My opinion:
WOW, what a thrilling story. I felt so excited for reading this book that I hope there is a second one to know what happens to the characters afterwards.

Amber Tyler, the main character, was living a perfect life with her two kids, her girlfriend Karen and a brilliant career as a writer. Until one day her health decides to play a trick on her, and after that her life decides to play a trick on her. All of a sudden a nightmare begins. We follow her on her the recovery of what is hers, with the ups and downs of her life during those days. She gets exposed to her weaknesses, she has to fight and be stronger to avoid losing everything.

I love the cover of the book. It’s simple and after reading it I can see how perfect it is for the story.

All the characters are amazing and they could be the person living next door to you, since they are so real. Amber is a woman with weaknesses, but also a fighter and very strong at some points. Her relationship with the kids, especially with the younger one, Kyra, is beautiful, and Kyra is really cute. Karen, her girlfriend, struggles to have the old Amber back the best way she can, even if she has to be tough. We can read about the desperation of people on the same situation as them.

The writing is simple, the plot is original and intense. There are several twists that made me keep reading and took my breath away. It’s a book full of mystery, suspense and action. It also has some of the “true life drama” which makes it seem very realistic, and that makes it even more interesting.

If someday I find there is a second book about this family, I’ll sure read it!

uncovering

Title: The Uncovering
Author: Jes Young
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy

Overview:
Tab Bennett is normal — unusually, excessively normal. Her job as a bank teller is safe and secure, her grandfather finally let her move out of the house (at least to the cottage at the end of the driveway), and her fiancé fiercely guards her chastity, whether she wants him to or not.
It's something of a shock, then, when Tab learns that she is the elvish queen of the fabled kingdom of the Inbetween. Also shocking is the appearance of the staggeringly confident and gorgeous elvish warrior who claims to be Tab's true betrothed. Even amidst a steamy love triangle, Tab must tell friend from foe in an unknown world of danger, deceit, magic, and sex.
The first in the Underneath and Inbetween trilogy, The Uncovering sparkles with wit and unadulterated fun.

My opinion:

In the beginning of the book I couldn’t predict what adventures it tells us and the magic it contains.  The first paragraph made me feel completely hooked.

This story is about Tab (Tabitha Bennett ), who, until now, was a woman with a normal and quiet life. When her sister disappears, Tab starts having visions of her sisters’ death. Suddenly she starts finding out things about herself that have been kept a secret by her own family, including her fiancé. She finds everything hard to believe at first, expecting someone to tell her it was all a big prank. Tab doesn’t feel instantly ready to be who they say she is.

The love story is a love triangle: Tab, Robin (the “old” fiancé) and Alex (who has been betrothed to Tab since she was born). Although Tab loves Robin, a little magic detail I’m not telling you about (I don’t want to spoil the story) makes it hard for her to stay away from Alex.

I like the plot and the writing. I have to say I was very impressed with the magical and unusual scenario, so full of fantasy. There are also several twists that make the story very interesting. I love Tab. I think Jes Young created a great heroine. The characters are well built and the scenarios described are incredible. Most times I wished I was there as well.

In my opinion the story is great, but we read too much about it and sometimes I felt like the book was more about the love story than all the rest. Nevertheless I think it was a good addition to the plot, it has a purpose, but for me it was a little too much.

I definitely want to read the next book of the series!
